Erlang Telecom Core Test Lab

A component-based Erlang/OTP telecom core lab designed around independently buildable network elements, beginning with an advanced STP implementation and an extensible roadmap for MSC/VLR, SMSC, and HLR/AuC components.

What I did

  • >Structured each network element with independent source, configuration, tests, and documentation so components can be replaced by real peers.
  • >Built the signalling backbone around an STP implementation with a substantial OTP test suite.
  • >Designed the repository for cross-component topologies and end-to-end telecom scenarios rather than a monolithic simulator.
  • >Includes Linux container deployment guidance and real SCTP-oriented operation for M3UA/M2PA style experiments.

Case Study

Architecture Goal

  • >Model telecom network elements as replaceable components with explicit protocol boundaries.
  • >Keep shared signalling contracts separate from component logic so the lab can grow without tight coupling.

Erlang / OTP Focus

  • >Use OTP supervision, message passing, test isolation, and fault-oriented design to model telecom control-plane behavior.
  • >Exercise the same runtime model used in production Erlang systems while keeping experimentation safe and repeatable.
