Go SMS Delivery & Signalling Test Lab

A self-contained telecom messaging lab with Go-based ESME, SMPP proxy, SMSC, STP, protocol libraries, fault injection, durable message lifecycle handling, and real M3UA/SCTP support on Linux.

What I did

  • >Built separate ESME, SMPP proxy, SMSC, and STP components with clear network-element boundaries.
  • >Implemented protocol coverage spanning SMPP, M3UA, SCCP, TCAP, MAP SMS, GSM 03.38, TPDU handling, delivery receipts, multipart messages, routing contexts, GTT, and SSNM flows.
  • >Designed both a standalone synthetic SMPP topology and an SS7/MAP topology that can connect to external signalling peers.
  • >Added Docker Compose environments and Linux SCTP deployment guidance for reproducible protocol testing.
  • >Uses protocol-aware relaying, capture points, firewall simulation, and fault injection to test failure and recovery behavior.

Case Study

Purpose

  • >Create a reproducible environment for testing SMS delivery and signalling without depending on a full operator core network.
  • >Turn protocol knowledge from production troubleshooting into executable, testable network elements.

Systems Depth

  • >Covers application-layer SMPP through SS7/SIGTRAN layers including M3UA/SCTP, SCCP routing, TCAP dialogues, MAP SMS operations, and GSM TPDU encoding.
  • >Includes lifecycle behavior such as scheduling, validity, retries, cancellation, replacement, DLR correlation, and replay.

Operational Value

  • >Supports fault injection, screening, congestion, failover, protocol capture, and deterministic synthetic delivery.
  • >Provides a safe lab for reproducing edge cases that would be risky or difficult to create in live telecom environments.
