SimpleEngine - C++17 2D Game Engine

A reusable C++17 2D engine prototype with an ImGui editor, ECS scene model, OpenGL sprite rendering, input mapping, simple physics, prefabs, asset manifests, packaging, and sample games.

What I did

  • >Built a reusable engine core plus editor/runtime applications and game hooks.
  • >Implemented ECS scene management, OpenGL rendering, AABB collision/trigger phases, input mapping, scripts, prefabs, and JSON scene persistence.
  • >Added asset manifests, sprite-sheet/animation metadata, gamepad support, regression tests, and distributable packaging workflows.
  • >Built Snake and Flappy Bird samples plus a reusable basic-game template to validate engine boundaries.

Case Study

Why It Matters

  • >Shows systems-level C++ work beyond my primary DevOps and backend stack.
  • >Exercises memory-conscious runtime design, rendering loops, event systems, fixed-timestep simulation, asset ownership, and build tooling.

Engineering Design

  • >Separates reusable engine_core from game-specific implementations and editor/runtime shells.
  • >Uses named input actions, component-based entities, script lifecycle callbacks, collision phases, and packageable game configurations.
